Recon:AN/PVS-2 Starlight Scope
The AN/PVS-2 scope is a passive item which negates the vision range penalty of stationary Rangers during nighttime. Moving Rangers do not receive any benefit from the scope. Because vision range is halved during nighttime, a Ranger's standard 600-px vision is cut to 300-px, making spotting a much more difficult task.
The AN/PVS-2 is an uncommon weapon attachment used primarily in Vietnam. Though incredibly bulky, being almost the same diameter as a M72 LAW tube and nearly half as long, it was nonetheless an incredibly useful night-vision attachment for reconnaissance squads operating in darkness. However, these early night-vision items relied on ambient light instead of an infrared light source. Using an S-20 photocathode, their image intensifiers produce a light amplification of around 1,000×, but are quite bulky and require moonlight to function properly.
