This is an easy ribbon to achieve, as it is only past around wave 40 that things start heating up, with vehicles becoming common. The reward is not very good, as it is a very small chance for you to get a free grunt, but as this is cumulative with its older brothers, the Silver Star and the Gold Star, it has its place as a stepping stone to greater things.
This was established on the 4th February 1944, as a morale booster to the ground troops who had been demoralized by the lack of an equivalent of the Air Medal. It is awarded to anyone distinguishes himself by heroic or meritorious achievement or service, but less so than for the Silver Star. When it is awarded for bravery, it is the fourth-highest combat award in the US Army.
