And while this clearly isn’t the Western front, we also need to consider the Ost-Batallione, a subdivision of the Ost-Legionen, which were a colection of Eastern conscripts, volunteers and prisoners-of-war, consisting mainly of Balkan peoples, but was also famous for the occasional Far-eastern members such as Koreans and Indians. In some case,…[Read more]

So I was writing about possibly having more large structures to build other than just the cabin, and though why not apply the same concept of the campsite to the Cottage? Have one large cleared and set area where different structures could be built: the cabin, a forge, a warehouse/shed? Maybe even a well for water?….an outhouse (improves morale?)

  • Being able to forge goods from metal was on of the things that the last game hinted at but never materialized. I could see the pieces set for it (being able to mine. Minerals like lead), so I’m wondering if it is planned for LW 2.O

Forging and smithing in general will probably be more of a long-term goal, in which the only way to unlock all…[Read more]

  • Ah yes, good on Lance for dragging us back to the game we are playing. You’re right, we should keep the cooking in the realm that it is in to maximize unfairness.

I totally on board for having more variety to the level of cooking food, so as not to always have a toss-up between perfectly edible food and a pile of charred mush

    I wonder if we…[Read more]

  • @ Reid

I really like the suggestion and it opens up expanding on cooking tools beyond just teh pot.

And I believe I understand your concept. Have you heard of Overcooked? The game uses a similar system to the one you are describing. When food is cooked on a burner, a bar shows it’s progress until fully cooked. then a check shows it is ready. If…[Read more]

  • Definitely like the idea of rubaboo! Does definitely streamline the process. But was wondering it it would still be worth giving it tiers: depending on what is put in, the rubaboo would be light, plain, or hearty.

Has anyone ever played Don’t Starve? In it, you can cook pretty much anything you come across, but is done by combining 3 foodstuffs,…[Read more]

@Lance, I didn’t realize you had started a topic specifically about cooking, so I reposted there, and Reid has put up a stellar suggestion as well regarding soups.

And i’m glad you brought up the beer, alcohol brewing seriously needs to be in a coureur’s arsenal!

  • Moving here to the proper topic:

Chatting with LWillter regarding cooking and such, and recalled that there was a cooking pot, wooden bowl and spoon in the OG last winter. So what about some liquid based foodstuff? Things like porridge and soups that give high level hunger satisfaction. Most of these could be made either cold (w/o fire and…[Read more]

The spit isn’t a separate fire, but just a simple wooden structure that sits over the fire, allowing food to be cooked more evenly. It is also sometimes just a few sticks perched on the side.

It would be an upgrade to the fire, but it would be better to appear next to it so the player knows it’s there, or at least that’s my opinion. It could work…[Read more]

  • i recall in the old forums I had suggestions regarding how different blades could work compared to each other.
For example currently I believe the scalping knife is the only one that explicitly states that it gives a bonus to scalping. The idea would be to give bonuses to all knives based on their nature:

cutting stone: -5% to all cutting…[Read more]

Size and shape would be totally up to Urb, but yeas similar to the current clear area.

The cooking spit would be a separate structure, but would appear next to the fire.

Ideally the campsite will also be something we can pack up to a certain extent, and carry components of it with us should we wish to move. Suggestions for other upgrades are…[Read more]

  • The camp. That first step of taming the vast wilderness, and making your mark in New France. In the OG Last Winter, this consisted mainly of just the campfire and some form of shelter, be it a lean-to or a tent. [Somewhat] easy to put down, and easier to walk away from. But what if the intrepid explorer wants just a bit more from his personal…[Read more]

  • I was actually thinking Wigwam = Hut, but just a different method of being constructed/different materials. Possibly even different method of unlocking the ability to construct it.

As far as interaction, beyond a few slots for inventory, I really hadn’t considered it. With the cabin you could make a bed, so I wonder if the option to make a bed…[Read more]

  • Been steadily making my way back to the world of Urbness, although mainly just focusing in on the New World of Last Winter. I was, of course, highly animated upon hearing that Urb had recently picked up and dusted off the LW code. While I’m not rushing him or anything, the buzz of LW had me pondering the hazardous unknown that is our pixelated…[Read more]

Thank ye! This is actually the portrait of the Coureur des Bois unit from Age of Empires III, but still gruff enough to be piratical in my eyes!
